Interpreters pay close attention to what speakers say.

Listening is the first step in the actual interpreting process. The interpreter must hear and understand what the speaker is saying to deliver the equivalent message in the target language. So, the first question you should ask yourself if you consider interpreting as a professional career would be, “Am I a good listener?”.
Being a good listener is not an easy task. It is not just about understanding the actual words, but rather the idea the speaker is trying to convey. This cartoon is a fun way to highlight the many superpowers that, in my opinion, interpreters have. I’m in awe every time I see them in action, and having the opportunity to do that for a living is just a dream come true.
If you admire your fellow interpreters or your interpreting service provider, send them this cartoon to let them know.

Collins dictionary has chosen “permacrisis” as the word of the year 2022. The word is used to describe an extended period of instability and insecurity, esp one resulting from a series of catastrophic events.
Permacrisis tops a list of 10 words, six of them new entries in the dictionary, which represent 2022, Collins said.
“Language can be a mirror to what is going on in society and the wider world, and this year has thrown up challenge after challenge.
“It is understandable that people may feel, after living through upheaval caused by Brexit, the pandemic, severe weather, the war in Ukraine, political instability, the energy squeeze, and the cost-of-living crisis, that we are living in an ongoing state of uncertainty and worry.”

International Translation Day is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding, and cooperation, and contributing to developing and strengthening world peace and security.
Transposition of a literary or scientific work, including technical work, from one language into another language, professional translation, including translation proper, interpretation, and terminology, is indispensable to preserving clarity, a positive climate, and productiveness in international public discourse and interpersonal communication.
Thus, on 24 May 2017, the General Assembly adopted resolution 71/288 on the role of language professionals in connecting nations and fostering peace, understanding and development, and declared 30 September as International Translation Day.
Why 30 September?
30 September celebrates the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator, who is considered the patron saint of translators.
top sign-off phrase to include in your resignation letter
Leaving politics aside, I wanted to post about this “Hasta la vista, baby” event, which kept me thinking about how one phrase can make your departure memorable. Could this become a helpful phrase to turn down low-paying job offers? Would it be the perfect sign-off phrase to use when quitting a job? In any case, the well-known event inspired me to create one more cartoon. I hope you like it and have fun with it.

Feeling absolutely impotent and incredulous about what is happening around the world, I felt the need to post something showing my disapproval of the war and of any actions that are not in line with healing the world and taking steps to recover from the pandemic, and fighting climate change. The world is ailing as it is. A war today seems incomprehensible. I thought humanity had learned from history and yet here we are…
A translator talks about the scariest horror movie in their life.
Continuing with the humourous cartoons about translators I felt the inspiration to create this cartoon playing a little with the most dreaded word a translator can hear —”deadline”.
Translators are an odd type that is most exposed when mingled with other “normal” people. No matter how hard they try to go with the flow, there is always a detail that will give them away. Do you agree?
